facial postiche

1. put one point in the block and hammer in attatching the piece of lace, them hammer flat to the block facing away from the lace tightaning it.

2. fold the lace over creating a triangle shape dart and pint and hammer in place, do this all around the lace using at least eight points.

3. cut a piece of thread an arms length long an knot on to the lace, whip along the lace on the edge of the dart leaving a five mm gap between each knot securing the dart.

4. when starting the whip loop a three inch ternback and knot through lace leaving a long and a short piece of thred then cut the short down.

5. pull this tight before going on to the next knot.

6. make sure that the gaps between are close together to stop it from catching when it is combing through.

self evaluation of practical:

during this practical i came accross some problems with using the knotting hook and getting used to using it again as the thread kept comming of the hook as i was tring to bring it through the lace. the problem was that my hook was to amall so i had to go for a bigger size and change the angle i was hoding the hook and i managed to speed up and complete the whipping.

some of the other things that i would like to improve upon in using this techneque was the spacing between the knots i feel that they were close enouth together but not evenly or neatly spaced as would like, so i am going to have to improve this techneque further to reach a better outcome.

next stage of postiche prctical:

constructing a beard:

1. measure the face from the ear to the jaw, from the jaw to the mouth and form the bottom lip to the aboms apple.

2. for the template get some cling film and cover over the face from under the nose and get someone to hold in place.

3. then cover in tape ans mark out with a pen where the deard will be .( follow the natural hairline).

4. then cover over again in tape to seal pen and to give a stiff teplate.

5. then place this on to the bloch and tape in place.

6. fill the teplate with tisue to create the shape of the chin, ones this is done then tape in to place.

7. put the piece of lace over the beard, then pin in to place with one pin at the top cetre and stretch the lace out and pin at both sides, pin in the cente under the chin.

8. create the darts eather side of the centre pin folding toward it to folow the shape of the template, (make sure it tight and fits the block).

9. then nkot useing clear thread along the bottom of the lace and over the edge of the darts.

self evaluation of practical

in this pratical i felt that it went alot better than the last as i was more confidant with the tchneque so the prosses was a lot quicker and a lot more acurate this time. drawignt he temlate on was a bit chalangeing as you didnt really know where the beard would be on a girl and had no referance to work from however i feel the beard would fit in with the hair line and shape of the face.

the darting that i did, did fit the form of the face well but still had a couple of loose areas at the top of the darts that i should have stretched out before i whiped the lace in to place i could have also avoided this by streching the lace better at the top when i secured it to the block. i will have to look more carfully at this if i was to do it again.

examples of prosses:

in this demonstration of how to create a template for a beard and mustache it sows that they draw the pen on to the skin and then add the cling film and tape. i found this odd, but the pen washed off.

they also went in to much more depth and detail with the smaller sections of the beard and the texture and derection.

beards and hairlines:

. always make the beard and mustache pieces seperate, so that the face can still move naturally with out wrinkling and resticts the mouth from moving.

. you should also always mix a range of colours atleast three to give a more natural tone and depth to the colour. you should also look at the natural colours of the models face and look at referance images of them with their beard to look at to see the colours to make the beard as natural as posable.

1. add your template from ur models face of their hairline and put this on to the block, tape in to place.

2. put a piece of lace over the front and top on the wig, in this in place at the top centre and on the face.

3. pull back the sides of the lace making sure that it is not loose but also no to tights for the model, then pin in to place on both sides of the head. (it should be flat to the two lines of the hair line you have drawn on the template)

4. create darts with the extra lace on the head behing the ears as well as at the front and on top of the head and pin in to place.

5. using a needle and thred (a dark colour thread) loosly sew around the outline of the hairline you wish to create making sur that it will be able to be taken out once finidhes.

6. place the wig on to the block and then mark out using pins the hair line, then remove the wig.

7. whip the adrts using clear thread and your knotting hook.

8. put the wig back on to the block and and using smaller pins atteatch the wig on to the lace.

9. take the wig with the lace attatched of of the wig and then turn this inside out and double stitch the wig to the lace with two seams.

10. then place the wig and the lace back on to the block.

11. then start knotting the hair on to the lace starting at the back with bolk knotting (a graoup of hairs at a time) then gradually go in to lots of single hairs and blending out to speratic placement to give a more natural hair line.

putting a lace front on a hard front wig:

self evauation of practical:

with this paractical i found it a lot quicker to knot when whipping the darts than in the preveouse practicals so it went a lot quicker this time to finish the darts.

at the beggining of the sesion it was hard to get my head around how all the steps would come together to creeate the lace front, but by the end i understood the stages and how they are needed to give a fitting and realistic wig.

it was interesting to look at how we would create the wigs for our portraits and this opens up more ways we can recreate them, alot of the portraits i was looking at had reseading hair lines and i new for this i would probably use a bold cap if i was to chose this however i didn tno how i was going to attatch a wig to this, so found this practical verry helpefull.

i can now start to plan and organise the wigs and time i will need to knot the front of the wig inn to concideration.

cleaning a lace front wig:

1. you need to clean the lace front of the wig to take of the glue, make-up and persperation so it is readdy to use the next time without any damage.

2. using asitone and wearing gloves (marigolds) place the lace in to a bowl of asitone, considering if it is a synthetic wig the asitone could melt the wig.

3. soak some muslin ( cotton wool wraped in muslin)in the asitone.

4. then place one of them under the lace anf with the other on top rub the lace until clean. ( dont use cotton wool to do this).

putting on a lace front wig on to a bald cap:

if aplying a lace front wig on to a bald cap you can glue the front on to the bald cap using the lace but that still leaves the back of the wigto secure. their a a few things you can do to keep the wig in to place.

1. you can add more layers to the back bace of the bald cap and pin curl and cross grip the hair in these areas then push the pins through the bald cap and in to the hair to hold in to place without ripping the bald cap.

2. you can do the same thing again but add in a piece of lace in this area in to the cap and paint layers over this to stifen the area of the cap so it is certain not to break and repete the prosses.

3. the third option is to sew in small quare tabs of lace inside the wig and then when u place this on to the bald cap you can glue down using these tabs to secure the wig to the bald cap.

examples of the prosess:

using a lace front wig is really usefull and an easyer way to create a wig in les time with a smaller budget.

you can do this by using a synthetic wig, this is less good quality and you can not add heat to style however you can still change the style and set using products, but if putting hair up this will exspose the frame of the wig and the wheft work. you could use some of the whefts to cover up these gaps and improve the thickness and style of the wig. it is better to use two wigs so that you can use one to cut up and to use the hair for knotting and the other you can create on to and use.

the synthetic wigs are made to fit any size head but if you are bringing the wig back feather on the head you can get ecess hair and frame at the back, you can pin this down or sew to make the wig fit the head better.

from the makeup artist hand book

i thoughth this was usefull as i am planning on re fronting creating a lace front wig on to a bald cap to give the apearance of e ferther back hair line.

i will probably be using this techneque to do this.

this shows how you would knot the hair in to the lace and the meathod you would use.

although we did this last year when making the mustach i thought that it would be a good idea to recap of the techneque as it is quite hard to get the hang of but ones you have learnt it gets alot quicker to knot the hair.

i will prorbably be doing some knotting for this project for the hair or the eyebrows so it is important for me to beable to feelconfidant in knotting the hair.
